LiPo Warning
LiPo batteries can cause fire if misused! NiMH battery models are recommended for under 14.
| Brand | Availability | Price | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| WLtoys | Easy | Cheap | AliExpress, Amazon |
| Traxxas | Very easy | Expensive | Local hobby shops |
| Axial | Easy | Medium | Online stores |
| JJRC | Hard | Cheap | AliExpress |
Warning
Spare parts availability is important! An RC car that's cheap but has no parts becomes trash.
Check before buying:
There are suitable models for ages 5 and up. Slow models (under 25 km/h) are recommended for ages 5-7.
1:24 and 1:18 scale small models can be used indoors. Larger models require outdoor space.
Usually 1-3 hours charge, 15-30 minutes use time. Getting an extra battery makes sense.
Most models are not water resistant! Even those marked "Waterproof" can go through puddles but can't swim.
Playing in snow is fun but risky for electronics. Drying after snow is essential.
RC car selection varies by budget and age:
| Situation | Recommendation | Budget |
|---|---|---|
| First RC (ages 5-7) | JJRC Q65 or Hot Wheels RC | $50-100 |
| First RC (ages 8-10) | WLtoys A979-B | $100-200 |
| Serious beginner (10+) | WLtoys 144001 | $200-300 |
| Hobby (12+) | Traxxas Slash | $500+ |
Parent Tip
Don't buy an expensive model for the first RC car! If your child's interest continues for 3-6 months, upgrade to a quality model.
